Free family arts festival events this half term

Transported, the Boston and South Holland arts organisation, is hosting two free events next week as part of the nationwide Family Arts Festival campaign.

You will be able to contribute to a large-scale silk painting for the Mayflower 2020 celebrations in a free workshop at Boston Guildhall with professional artist Sue Rowland. The silk painting workshop, which will take place from 10.30am to 1.30pm next Wednesday, October 26, at Boston Guildhall and has been organised by Transported and Boston Borough Council as part of the #Illuminate2016 celebrations. The silk painting is one of two one-metre squared silk paintings which will be displayed in the run up to the #Mayflower400 campaign to commemorate 400 years since the Pilgrim Fathers left for America.

Make sure you are in Boston Market Place next Friday, October 28, for October's Family Fun Friday event from 10am until 30m. Ruth Pigott will help you create your own paper bird for the #Illuminate2016 parade as part of the Christmas event in Boston on Thursday, November 24. There will also be free performances of Rambling On, by Fairplay Theatre Company. Hundreds of people have been drawn in by the free, fun and inspiring performances and workshops in Boston Market Place since Family Fun Fridays were created in 2014. The popular programme has been organised by Transported in partnership with the borough council to provide free activities to families during the school holidays.

Put November 24 in your diary. As well as the Illuminate parade there will be a Christmas Market from noon to 8pm. From 3pm there will be face painting, fairground attractions, Santa's Grotto, late-night shopping and free entertainment by singer Sarah Lowe, Boston Jive and Blackfriars Theatre.

There will also be craft markets on Thursdays all through November and December up to and including December 22.
