Asbestos fly tip: Appeal for information
Boston Borough Council, is seeking any information about a massive dump of asbestos at Old Leake.
Around 50 corrugated asbestos sheets have been dumped on a bridle way at Market Lane, Old Leake, spilling into a dyke.
It was reported to the council on October 17.
The clean-up costs will be £1700. The council has had to call in a specialist firm. Their operators will wear special protective suits and masks . It's the biggest asbestos tip the council has ever had to deal with. It's not just the cost of removal but the correct onward disposal which costs so much because of the extremely hazardous nature of the product. It looks as if this may have come from a commercial building. The council will be pleased to hear from anyone who knows where one has been taken down.
Cllr Michael Brookes, Boston Borough Council's Cabinet member for waste services, said: "This is an anti-social and reckless act carried out by irresponsible people who just don't care. All they care about is dumping their disposal costs which will fall on the council tax payer.
"We want to catch these people and make them pay. Any information will be appreciated; please let us know of any structure containing this type of asbestos which has been demolished recently."
Any information about the dump should be passed to the council's enforcement team on 01205 314200.
