Budding artists wanted to transform aluminium into art

The Witham Central and Carlton Road Neighbourhood Action Group, has been awarded £15,000 by the Arts Council and a further £1500 from the Royal Voluntary Service's Local People's Project to undertake a new exciting arts project along the Haven Bank in Boston.

The 'From the Stump to the Sluice' project will create a series of beautiful, inspiring, themed, cast metal finials made from collected and then melted down aluminium cans along the Haven Bank in Boston and the group are looking for artists to make this project a reality. The project will run for the next 9 months with the group giving local residents a chance to be involved in the design of the artwork through creative workshops.

Mr Jody Raggo, Chair of the Witham Central and Carlton Road Neighbourhood Action Group, said: "The group are working in partnership with Transported Arts in commissioning an artist to undertake this very exciting project. We are looking for artists from all backgrounds who can work closely with the group and local residents to undertake creative consultation workshops to explore and identify themes that reflect what people think is special and unique about this area and create a body of design material that will be the starting point for the finials. The group are looking to engage younger people within the arts encouraging them to explore and understand the value of the environment as well as taking part in inspirational and exciting arts activity and we hope the chosen artist can engage with schools to achieve this."
