Don't start a field fire
The heatwave may be coming to an end, for now, but tinder dry conditions will remain for a while and a warning has been issued, following field fires, of the hazards caused by carelessly discarded cigarettes.
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue are asking people to take extra care after dealing with ten field fires in just five days. The last required eight appliances and affected around 40 hectares of stubble and 100 metres of hedgerow.
A Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "Although we are told this long, hot summer might be coming to an end with some rain forecast, it doesn't mean we can all relax.
"We have previously had very heavy rainstorms which had very little effect on the dry ground. Please, please take care when enjoying the countryside."
