Opening of Boston's new footbridge

The new St Botolph's Footbridge over The Haven in Boston will be officially opened at 11am, Friday, February 28.

The ribbon will be cut on the White Hart side of the river by Lincolnshire County Councillor Richard Davies, and 30 children from the Park Academy will be first to cross the bridge, pausing in the centre to release balloons.

Each child will receive a personally-named certificate from Boston Borough Council marking the first crossing of the bridge.

The bridge, a Lincolnshire County Council project, will close for a few days immediately following the opening event to allow the handrail and functional lighting to be fitted. Lincolnshire County Council says this is a matter that is out of its control as it is waiting for specialist parts to be delivered. It anticipates the bridge will be open for normal pedestrian use by early next week.

The £750,000 cost of the bridge has been met by Lincolnshire County Council and the European Regional Development Fund.
