Extra cash for victims of domestic abuse
A bid drawn up by Boston Borough Council for Government cash for all councils in the county to provide more support to victims of domestic abuse has been approved.
A partnership of Boston Borough Council and Lincoln City, East Lindsey, West Lindsey, North Kesteven, South Kesteven and South Holland District Councils will receive just over £129,000 for this financial year, and a further £301,000 for 2015/16. The bid was also submitted in partnership with Boston Women's Aid, West Lincolnshire Domestic Abuse Services and Nottingham Community Housing Association.
The successful bid centred around creation of four additional refuge units and recruitment of specialist support staff for all refuges. Locations of the additional refuges have yet to be decided.
A borough council spokesman said: "By working together we have now ensured that those suffering domestic abuse in Lincolnshire will have access to support and accommodation commensurate with the needs we have identified."
There were more than 10,000 reported incidents of domestic violence in Lincolnshire in 2013/14.
