Golden May Fair for Emi-Mai and Ben

Emi-Mai Forman (4) and Ben Walker (12) were among Boston May Fair's VIP guests at the opening on Saturday, receiving golden tickets to ride on whatever they wanted for FREE.

They were the winners of the second annual Boston May Fair Golden Tickets in a competition organised by the Showmen's Guild and Boston Borough Council.

There were two winners this year because Emi-Mai, whose name was first out of the hat, is only four-years-old. The May Fair showmen agreed another name should be pulled out to give an older person the chance of enjoying the bigger thrill rides that Emi-Mai could not go on.

Emi-Mai, of Butterwick, and Ben, of Boston, received their golden tickets from Boston Mayor Alison Austin and Keith James, chairman of the Derby, Notts, Mid and South Lincolnshire section of the Showmen's Guild on the steps of the Gallopers on Fish Hill in Boston Market Place at the traditional proclamation.

There was a bumper entry to win a golden ticket for free rides during the duration of the May Fair.

Bernard Mitchell, Secretary of the Derby, Notts, Mid and South Lincs Section of the Showmen's Guild of Great Britain, said: "Last year was the first chance to win a golden ticket. It was great fun and it was brilliant to see the smile on the winner's face when he received his golden ticket. The showmen decided they'd like to do it again this year. In view of Emi-Mai's young age we were delighted for a second winner to also be chosen. Boston is a real favourite with the showmen, and the May Fair has a special place in their hearts."

The civic proclamation ceremony was attended by VIP guests including mayors and mayoresses from neighbouring authorities and representatives of the Showmen's Guild.

The fair remains open for business in the Market Place in Boston all this week from 11am to 10.30pm and from 11am to 11pm on Saturday, its final day.

A smaller than usual market will move to St George's Road car park for this week only.
