A £300,000 project between Boston Borough Council, Lincolnshire Groundwork and Sustrans resulted in the construction of a riverbank cycleway from Boston Marina to Antons Gowt along the former railway line.

Witham Way The 5km route forms part of the National Cycle Network Route 1 which links Hull to Harwich. Being elevated, the route offers striking views of the surrounding countryside for riders and walkers, and the cycleway's smooth surface means its can be enjoyed by people with wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Borough Council chief executive at the time, Nicola Bulbeck, said the cycleway was a marvellous facility for Boston and she is particularly pleased financial support was secured from the European Regional Development Fund and the East Midlands Development Agency.

The Borough Council was happy to pay for the final length of the route from Witham Way Country Park to the Grand Sluice. The Country Park itself covers 39 acres and is very popular with walkers, bird watchers and people enjoying exercise with their dogs.

Public meetings helped formulate future plans for the area, and a Friends of Witham Way group was formed
