THE WORSHIPFUL THE MAYOR OF BOSTON
COUNCILLOR PETER JORDAN OBE

 
Councillor Peter Jordan OBE was appointed Mayor of Boston on Monday 17 May 2010.

The Mayor was born in Boston and educated at Tower Road Primary School and Boston Grammar School.

On leaving school Councillor Jordan joined Fisher Clark (later Norprint) as an Engineering Apprentice.  Over subsequent years he progressed to become its Managing Director.  He held this position for 11 years and on retirement, The Mayor was appointed Chairman of Pilgrim NHS Trust comprising the Pilgrim Hospital, Boston; the Johnson and Welland Hospitals, Spalding and Skegness Hospital.  He was then appointed Vice Chairman of the East Lincs Primary Care NHS Trust for five years until 2006.

In the New Years Honours List of 2001 Councillor Jordan was awarded an OBE.  It was a dual citation for services to the town of Boston and for services to the NHS.

Councillor Jordan was elected to Boston Borough Council in 2007 representing North Ward.  He was Deputy Leader for two-and-a-half years with Cabinet portfolio responsibilities for Human Resources, Performance and Improvement Services, Diversity, Risk and Health and Safety.
The Mayor has previously served on the Council’s International Links Committee, Way Forward Group and Licensing/Regulatory and Appeals Committee.
 
The Mayoress is Councillor Jordan’s wife, Mrs Sally Jordan, who is Assistant Head Teacher and Head of Mathematics at Kirton’s Middlecott School.

Councillor Jordan has appointed Councillor Gerry Clare as his Deputy for the Mayoral year.  Councillor Clare was elected to the Council in 2007 and has previously served as a Cabinet Member.  Councillor Clare’s wife, Mrs Pam Clare, is the Deputy Mayoress for the year and they both also served as Deputy Mayor & Deputy Mayoress in 2008/09.

The Mayor has a passion for light classical music and, in particular, the comic operas of Gilbert and Sullivan. His favourite is HMS Pinafore.  He is also an avid crossword fan.  In his youth he was a keen wildfowler and a Fen ice skater, skating on the frozen River Witham from Boston to Langrick Bridge.

His nominated charities for the year are the Boston Stump Restoration and Development Appeal and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Mayor is always pleased to be invited to attend and give his support to local events and accepts as many invitations as his diary will allow. If you wish to invite the Mayor to attend an event, it is essential that each invitation is put in writing giving at least four weeks notice if possible. The invitation needs to include the following:-

the nature of the event date, time and duration
expectations of the Mayor (i.e. make a speech, open event etc.)

The invitation will then be discussed with the Mayor and a decision will be made on:-

the Mayor's availability, availability of the Deputy Mayor
advice taken if the invitation is of a sensitive or political nature.

A reply to the invitation will be sent and if the Mayor or Deputy Mayor are able to accept the invitation, a pro-forma will be included with the confirmation for the sender to complete and return at least two weeks prior to the event.The pro-formas are to provide the Civic Office with precise advance information, including all background information, to ensure that the Mayor is fully briefed.
