Elected on 3rd May 2007, Councillor Ray Newell is a Member of Cabinet with the portfolio for Community Safety and Emergency Planning. He is also a Member of the Licensing/Regulatory and Appeals Committee, Boston Town Area Committee (BTAC) and the internal Joint Consultative Committee, Way Forward Group and Chief Officers Appointments Panel.
In his role as Councillor, Councillor Newell represents the Council on various outside bodies including the Community Policing Governance Group, Nacro Services in Lincolnshire and Boston Grammar School Foundation Governors.
Boston born and bred, Councillor Newell was educated at Tower Road Primary School and Boston Grammar School. On completion of his education, early employment was at County Hall Boston followed by teaching at Kitwood Boys School.
A career in the army followed with postings in Hong Kong (which led Councillor Newell to becoming fluent in Cantonese), Germany, Canada and Northern Ireland.
Looking to the future and his new role within the town,Councillor Newell says "Having been elected on the promise to do all I could to obtain a vital westerly by pass distributor road for Boston, it is also my intent to support the Council in resolving other problems currently faced by the people of Boston. My particular responsibility is for Community Safety and Emergency Planning and I would welcome contact from any constituents requiring help in these areas".
