Warning: Phone scam

A warning has gone out about a telephone scam involving a conman who pretends he is working for Boston Borough Council.
The hoaxer contacted a resident by phone and purported to represent a company called CCPS who he said was working on behalf of the council.  The man was told if he paid £39.99 over the phone immediately they would get his council tax reduced and send him a refund cheque for £600 by doing a band reduction.
The gentleman did not realise this was not Boston Borough Council until he gave his bank details to them and they suddenly hung up.
The council is not doing band reduction work and is not responsible for revaluations. The only circumstances in which the council would ask for bank details would be if someone contacted the council asking to set up a direct debit or make a payment.

Online Service - Speeds Up Searches

Searching a form imageBoston Borough Council now has a new on-line form system for local authority searches for use by solicitors/conveyancers. The system has been designed to minimise the amount of time spent completing individual search forms.
This speeds up the time it takes to submit a search to the Council as details are only inputted once. The return time for searches is also reduced as there is no longer a delay due to postal services as requests will be received electronically and completed searches can be returned by email.

A leaflet has been produced to guide people using the on-line form.

Boston Market Place Refurbishment

View of Boston Market Place from the StumpIn 2007 Boston Borough Council commissioned the Boston Town Centre Study, which looked at ways that Boston can become a better place to both live and visit. Recommendations within this study identified the town centre as an area that was in need of improvement. The Study suggested that the Market Place was the centre piece of the town and should be the first area to be refurbished.

The refurbishment of the Market Place will act as a catalyst for further works that will improve the appearance and offer of the town whilst retaining the town’s proud history. Boston Borough Council has embraced the recommendations of the Town Centre Study and has been working in partnership with Lincolnshire County Council to secure funding for the refurbishment of the Market Place.

Boston's Community Sports Strategy

Boston's Community Sports Strategy - Boston - Fit for the Future sets out how sports services will be developed for the area and residents. Sport and physical activity helps people stay fit and healthy and get out and about in the borough. Working together with other sports clubs and providers we can get more people involved in sport and physical activity and make the best use of sporting facilities we have.

We want to encourage people to be involved in sport, either by teaching sporting activities, taking part or by supporting the many sports clubs and societies we have. To find out more about Boston's Community Sports Strategy you can take a look through the plan or contact us directly.
