Throwing a Boston party fit for a queen
A competition is being launched to find Boston's very own lookalike Queen. The winner will be announced at an event next month (June) to celebrate The Queen's 90th birthday.
Boston Town Team is planning a full weekend of celebrations on Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12, to include a street party on the Sunday between noon and 2pm.
Jenny Elwick, from Boston Area Chamber of Commerce, which is behind the Town Team said: "We want to bring everyone together to celebrate The Queen's 90th birthday, and already there's a huge feel-good factor among all the people and businesses who have offered to help.
"The Town Team is excited about delivering this special event. Boston Town Team board members, including Pescod Square, Boston Stump, Lincolnshire Police, Boots, Oldrids, M & S, The Butterfly Hospice, Blackfriars Theatre, LCVS, Just For You and Chattertons are offering their support. But we'd welcome more, so if you run a business and want to get involved, please get in touch."
Phil Drury, Chief Executive at Boston Borough Council, said: "We are delighted to support Boston Town Team on this event. They want to put on an event which brings visitors into Boston, and encourage residents of all ages to come into the town to join us.
"Not only is there a street party on Sunday, but across the whole weekend the Town Team have planned activities which will encourage people to explore new parts of the town centre they may not normally go to, and enjoy Boston in a way they wouldn't normally do on a usual shopping trip."
Regal revelry commences at Pescod Square Shopping Centre on Saturday, June 11, from 10am to 3pm where the free event includes a jubilant jewels craft workshop, allowing little princes and princesses to make crowns and tiaras, with the opportunity to create bear-sized versions for Sunday's Bear Parade.
There will also be a luxurious throne and life-size cut out of The Queen with the chance to take Sovereign Selfies. Throughout the day, the Square will be hosting a street party with live performances from the Radio Lincolnshire tour bus and a cake sale to raise money for local charity. What's more, you can win prizes every 90 minutes during the Grand Giveaways.
Andy Pottle, Pescod Square's Centre Manager, said: "The Queen's official 90th birthday will be one of the highlights of this year and we can't wait to celebrate this momentous occasion in the Square. With an exciting line up of activities, performances and giveaways, we're sure Boston residents will enjoy all that we have planned."
During the street party the Market Place will be decorated with bunting and flags, and live music will be played covering songs from the 1920s right through to modern day.
People can bring along deck chairs and picnic baskets to stay for the whole event and soak up the atmosphere.
Other activities to enjoy include a Teddy Bear Trail around the town for parents and children to spot the Best Dressed Queen Teddy Bear in shop windows. Only Teddy Bears purchased from The Boston Town Team can be entered in the Shop Window Teddy Bear Trail and competition. Boston Stump is repeating its Bear Challenge from 2pm on Sunday, which this year has been appropriately named the Royal Bear Challenge. This great community event involves sponsoring your teddy bear to abseil down the Stump.

More than 90 people from local charities will be invited to join the Boston street party, along with the Queen lookalike competition winner. Those invited to the street party will enjoy traditional street party food and live entertainment at no cost to them or their charity.
