Scam alert - new council tax fraud

Following previous reports of telephone and internet based scam's, we have received news of another incident involving a local resident.

An 80 year old lady was contacted by a man calling himself David Hill, saying he was from the Council Tax review team. She was told she was due a £7000 refund as she was registered in the wrong tax band. He wanted her to pay a £79 fee to begin a review.

Luckily the lady had her wits about her and called the Council Tax department to check. An online check of the caller's telephone produced a number of similar reports.

Residents are advised to be very cautious of such calls, as Boston Borough Council would never charge a fee for such services.
