Beach day success

Boston's beach day in Central Park has been again a massive success with hundreds flocking to the FREE event.

Despite changeable weather on day one (Thursday) people still turned out for the sandcastle making, donkey rides and magician show. Day two (Friday) the weather was more on our side so more sandcastle making, donkey rides went on alongside some arts and crafts, bouncy castles, theatre productions and lots more fun for all the family, all free of charge.

Boston Big Local has funded the event, which is supported by partner agencies - Lincolnshire Housing Partnership, Boston Children's Centre, Boston United in the Community, The Biz, Lincs Coast, Anglian Water, Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service, Community health and Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex.

Beach Days organiser, Fran Taylor of Boston Borough Council, said: "We've had a great couple of days, despite the changeable weather. People have just carried on regardless. Children have played together in the sand all day long.

"All the other attractions have been busy, especially the bouncy castles and the donkey rides. There have been queues for them all day long."

Richard Tory, chairman of Boston Big Local said: "It's been another success. It ticks all our boxes once again as a community event.

"It's so good to see the mix of all ages and nationalities enjoying themselves all together. Even the changeable weather didn't put people off."

The 'Fun in the Sun' session on Tuesday, August 21 was for people with additional support needs and their carers. Frances Taylor, event organiser said: " A fantastic time was had by all that attended. Friends came from many of our day care centres who support those with additional support needs such as Mencap, Sense, Your Day Your Say and Old Leake Day Centre, it really was an afternoon of "Fun in the Sun" with games being played on the beach as well as lots of sandcastle building. My thanks to Boston Big Local for funding this event."

Last beach session is on Tuesday, August 28 from 2pm to 4pm called 'Back in Time'. This event is a closed event for those people living with dementia and their carers, enjoying the beach area with a relaxing afternoon listening to the 78DJ playing his Golden Oldies and enjoy a sing-a-long, song sheets will also be at hand. Deck chairs and beach games will also be available.

Remember all events here are FREE OF CHARGE.
