Calling all young carers
There are an estimated 6,000 young carers in Lincolnshire, many of whom may not be getting the recognition and support they deserve.
Lincolnshire County Council wants to ensure that every young carer in Lincolnshire is recognised, valued and supported to have good health and wellbeing, and achieve their full potential.
And it is asking you to help identify young carers so that no one goes without the help they may need.
Do you know any young people who are helping and supporting someone with a long-term or terminal illness, physical or learning disability, mental health condition or substance misuse problem? Do you know any parents experiencing these things who have children? Would you know how to get support or advice for these young people?
Lincolnshire Young Carers Service offers comprehensive support which includes linking with a professional who will assess needs, provide good quality information and ensure the young carer gets the right support. This will, wherever possible, be someone the young person already knows and trusts. Support may consist of the chance to join groups and participate in activities with other young carers; or it may be one-to-one support from a worker with specialised knowledge of carers' issues.
If you know a young carer, please speak with them. They may not want or need any help and support, but all should have the opportunity of hearing that assistance is available.
