One year in a hundred
Local historian Alan Tosney has completed a film documenting a year in the life of Skirbeck Quarter's St Thomas's Church. But no ordinary year... its centenary year.
Cllr Peter Bedford, centre, receives his DVD of the film made by Alan Tosney, right, to mark the centenary of St Thomas's Church. Pictured with them, outside the church is the Rev Chris Wedge.
Alan, who is a founder member of Leverton History Group, has been a member of the St Thomas's congregation for around 20 years and was "volunteered" for the job of centenary film maker because of his experience with a video camera.
He has made films in connection with the Leverton History Group using a high definition camcorder purchased for the group with the assistance of a donation from Cllr Peter Bedford.
Cllr Bedford, leader of Boston Borough Council and a county councillor, used cash from his county council Big Society Fund allowance.
On Tuesday he was presented with a DVD of Mr Tosney's film - Saint Thomas's Church - A Celebration of 100 Years of Faithful Service in the Community.
Mr Tosney filmed a range of religious and community events held at the church and its neighbouring church hall during the centenary year - everything from christenings to social and fundraising gatherings - featuring many local people associated with the church. The actual 100 year anniversary of the church was May 9.
The only "extra" on the DVD is the relay of the Olympic flame through Boston. Mr Tosney said: "I could not let that historic event pass by without recording it."
Copies of the film are available from Alan or the church for £5, plus postage and packing.
Please call 01205 838368 or call in at the church.
Money raised will go towards the maintenance of the church.
