Boston Mayor is no mug

Boston's Mayor is no mug - he's hit on a great way to help raise funds for his chosen charities this summer.

He has so far collected around 65 donated mugs to help raise cash at next month's Community Showcase event.

But he wants even more, so he is appealing for everyone to clear out the backs of their kitchen cupboards and let him have the mugs they no longer use.

He plans to help raise funds for his charities, the Salvation Army and Boston branch of the Citizens Advice Bureau, by offering a mug of tea at the Community Showcase where, for £1 the purchaser gets a refreshing drink and a biscuit and gets to keep the mug. Some mugs will have a ticket hidden in them to win a prize.

Cllr Kenny, pictured, said: "We all have mugs which were special at the time and are now left lost and lonely at the back of the cupboard. Those which are quirky or amusing will still appeal to others. It would be great to give them a second lease of life and help raise funds for two deserving causes. The more mugs we can collect the more money we can potentially raise for the Mayor's Charity Fund."

If you have mugs you want to donate please leave them at the council offices in West Street, Boston, for the attention of Alison Hull.
