Thieves strip bare crematorium tool store
Thieves got away with practically all the tools, including a tractor, used by council grounds staff to keep Boston Crematorium and cemetery grounds maintained.
They raided a large metal storage container at the crematorium in Marian Road sometime between locking up time at 8pm on Monday and 7.15am on Tuesday when staff reported for work.
The thieves hacked through a large steel locking bar to get into the shipping container and then virtually stripped it bare.
It is believed they accessed the grounds from Red Cap Lane by removing a fence panel.
Anyone who saw or heard anything is asked to contact the police by calling 101.
Cllr Yvonne Gunter, portfolio holder for parks and open spaces, said: "There is never a good time for this sort of thing, but this really could not have happened at a worse time. Everything is growing so fast at this time of year that the men have a job to just stay on top of all the grounds maintenance. Now virtually all of their tools have gone. They even took their safety goggles.
"It's a despicable crime when you consider the grounds are kept nice out of respect for the relatives of the deceased."
