HOW FIRE SAFE IS YOUR HOME?
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue has launched a new online checklist that could help make your home a safer place.
Between April and June this year there were 54 accidental fires in the county. While this figure is down 38 per cent on the same period in 2013, the service is keen to reduce the number further by raising awareness of hazards in the home.
Debbie Robinson, Fire Safety Officer for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said: "We have created a new do-it-yourself toolkit to help residents and their families check that they really are safe and sound. If you do find any risks, some of which could spark a fire, this resource will tell you how to put it right. Having a working smoke alarm goes a long way to reducing the risk of a serious fire in your home, but our aim is to prevent fires from starting in the first place.
"We will continue to visit elderly and vulnerable residents and people who are more at risk through our current Home Safety Check scheme."
Go to http://bit.ly/1ozOdRV to complete a request form, which asks a few questions about you and your home.
If you do not fit into a high-risk group, you will be emailed a web link so that you can complete the online DIY home safety check.
This online check will ask questions about each area of your home and provide information and advice about safety in the home. Once submitted, your safety score will be checked.
Telephone on 01522 580397 or email email@example.com to receive a hardcopy booklet for you to go through at home. This booklet covers each area of your home and provides advice and information to help keep your home safe.
If you require additional help or information after completing the booklet, please contact Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue again. If you are at a higher risk of fire, they will contact you and ask if you would like a home safety check visit.
If you answer yes to any of the risk areas via the online form, email, or telephone, arrangements can be made for a home safety check visit. Advice or information you need straight away can be issued and any questions you may have will be answered. If you do not already have at least one working and properly positioned smoke alarm you will have at least one fitted free of charge by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue staff before they leave your home. The home safety check is a free service to the people of Lincolnshire.
