The Boston Leisure Project
The Boston Leisure Project forms part of a major £14.5 million investment programme in the Rowley Road area of the town.
A remodelled Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex (GMLC), including the creation of new public realm plaza will link to the leisure centre to the Boston College Mayflower development. The project will deliver key outcomes in health and wellbeing, as well as increased volunteering and learning opportunities for residents from all walks of life.
Once completed the leisure facility will be relaunched and renamed as the 'Boston Leisure Centre' and will display a small legacy frame in a prominent position in the venue in recognition of Geoff Moulder, after who the facility is currently named.

The project has been made possible thanks to UK Government Levelling Up Partnership funding and funding from the Towns Deal for transformational projects in Boston, all of which is being administered by Boston Borough Council.
Councillor Sarah Sharpe, Portfolio Holder for Heritage Culture and Tourism, said: "The Boston Leisure Project is a significant step forward for our town, delivering a much-needed upgrade to our local leisure facilities. Through this investment, we are creating a modern, inclusive space that reflects the needs of our growing community and encourages healthier, more active lifestyles."
"Collectively the two projects offer the potential to derive significant positive outcomes for people in education/attainment, place-making, health and well-being, and skills.... creating a unique leisure and educational space, intrinsically designed to be linked together via a central public open space/piazza and function as a single site/campus" - Towns Fund Business Case, March 2022
Timeline of activity
The programme will see the leisure pool area close from 6 June 2025 to enable demolition of the old frontage and pool changing rooms, with work due to commence on the new build extension in the summer.
The project will be completed in a number of phases:
New front extension, leisure pool roof and internal maintenance works completed by summer 2026 to enable new fitness areas and leisure pool to re-open.
Works then commence on volunteering and wellbeing hub summer 2026.
Works to training pool building will be completed between summer and autumn 2026.
Plaza area works, including drop off zone, disabled parking and electric vehicle charging points will be completed summer to autumn 2026.
Full completion including the volunteer and wellbeing hub is yet to be confirmed so watch this space!
When completed the remodelled venue will be serviced through a single main entrance foyer and reception with all facilities under one roof. The new extension development will place the new health and fitness suite front and centre of the facility with views externally on to the new plaza area.
The leisure centre remains open throughout this programme of redevelopment works, with customers able to use the gym, attend a class or go for a swim.
The council is committed to minimising disruption to customers as much as possible during the works. For more information and to book a variety of leisure activities, please visit the GMLC website: https://www.leisurecentre.com/geoff-moulder-leisure-complex
