Green Homes Grants scheme helps Boston resident reduce energy bills and improve carbon footprint
Residents in Boston who applied for Green Homes Grants are now benefitting from reduced bills from their home improvement measures.
One those residents Jacqui Hancock, of Boston, received a grant worth £10,000 under the LAD3 scheme of the Sustainable Warmth Programme, which has helped her improve the energy efficiency of her home by 12 SAP points, a number which correlates to the Energy Performance Certificate score of a property.
Having saved an estimated £446 a year on energy bills through this government funded scheme, Ms Hancock's home has seen improvements in producing and retaining energy, while also reducing the amount of carbon used.
Ms Hancock was unaware of the scheme until she contacted Boston Borough Council and spoke with an officer who took her application and assured her it was worth applying.
Upon a successful application, Ms Hancock was offered and agreed to Loft Insulation and Solar PV for her property.
Ms Hancock said: "The application form was very straight forward, and the Green Homes Grant team were very efficient, helpful and guided me through the process. The contractors were always punctual and carried out the works within the agrees timescales - I honestly couldn't fault them."
Under the assistance of both the contractors, Everwarm and Boston Borough Council, Ms Hancock received both measures under the scheme within a matter of months.
The extra insulation keeps her home warm and enables her to limit the use of her existing heating system.
She said: "I would recommend anyone who qualifies to take advantage of the Green Homes Grant."
Ms Hancock's property is one of over 400 properties within the Sustainable Warmth scheme to be offered government funded measures to help increase the energy efficiency of their home, reduce utility bills and keep homes warmer.
The Green Homes Grant teams have already seen over 600 measures installed across their active schemes and are continuing to deliver these.
Councillor Paul Skinner, Leader of Boston Borough Council, said: "With the current cost of living crisis, I'm delighted to know that our residents' lives are being changed for the better with the Green Homes Grants.
"On top of this, the Green Homes Grants provides yet another step towards our goals in reducing the carbon footprint of our borough too".
The Climate Change and Environment Team are currently seeking further funding to continue to offer to the local community.
